February 19, 2009, Honolulu, Hawaii – Colliers Monroe Friedlander has negotiated the purchase of a freestanding office building located at 1516 South King Street in Honolulu, Hawaii on behalf of Unite Here! Local 5. The building, formerly owned and occupied by Shiseido is 10,200 square feet sitting on 14,015 square feet of fee simple land.
Ronald Ward, Vice President of Colliers Monroe Friedlander, represented Unite Here! Local 5 in the acquisition with financing provided by First Hawaiian Bank.
According to Eric Gill, Secretary / Treasurer of Unite Here! Local 5, “For years the union has set a goal to purchase our own site in order to provide current and future members with a permanent home. This facility will house our administrative offices and serve as a meeting place for members and retirees.” Founded in 1937, Local 5 has worked to improve the quality of life for Hawaii’s hotel workers. Today, the Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees, Local 5, is one of the largest and strongest unions in Hawaii.
